How much does officiating pay? Pay is determined by the level of the game and the number of officials on the game. For the latest pay scale, please visit the UHSAA site here

How long are games? Games can vary in length due to number of goals, time outs, penalties, and injury time outs.  Youth games are around 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes.  High school games are between 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours.

How old do I have to be to officiate? At minimum you must be at least 16 years old to officiate Youth lacrosse and 18 years old to officiate High School lacrosse.

What leagues can I officiate? If you are out of high school then you are eligible to officiate youth and high school.  If you are still in high school then you must be at least 2 years older than the league players and may not play in the same league.  Examples: 1. if you are 16 years old and in high school you are eligible to officiate U13, U11 and U9.  2. if you are 17 years old and in high school you are eligible to officiate U15, U13, U11 and U9.

Do I need prior lacrosse experience, either playing, coaching, or as a fan? No, it can be helpful to understand the game prior to officiating, but it not a requirement.  We have had several officials without any real knowledge of lacrosse become great lacrosse officials.

Do I need my own car? Having a car is ideal, but not necessary.  You need reliable transportation so you can be on time for game assignments.  Hitching rides with family, friend, public transit, riding your bike is all good.

Can females officiate the boy’s game? Yes, we encourage anyone with interest to get involved with officiating.

What do I need to to do to become an official with the ULOA? Fill out the New Officials Registration Form and review the Resources page for uniform, rules, and mechanics information.

How much are ULOA dues? See the Membership section for current dues information. Dues are paid annually and expire at the end of the calendar year.

What do the ULOA dues cover? Arbiter Sports assigning website fees for each official, payment transaction fees, tax 1099 forms, and training.

How often are rules tests required for officials? Tests are required to be passed from all officials annually with separate NHFS (high school) and youth tests.  Visit the Annual Tests page for more details.
